Well, I always start with clean, minimal, semantic, and valid markup, separating the HTML, CSS and JavaScript from each other, and writing unique keyword-rich quality content that people will kill their own mothers for if they don’t link to it.
After that, it’s just a matter of marketing, promoting and maintaining the Web site.
In other words, most of the SEO work is really done before you even write a single line of code (the content), followed by the actual Web site development itself.
